Thanks to the visionary support of The Rix Family Foundation, the Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB) has purchased its first permanent home at 3454 Lougheed Highway — a renovated, two‑story, 16,000 sq ft Hub that will transform food security across Greater Vancouver.

The Hub ends years of leasing instability, saves millions in lease costs, and centralizes client and agency distribution. With 19,000 cu ft of refrigerated storage and 7,000 cu ft of freezer space, GVFB can quadruple capacity for fresh produce, dairy, and proteins, enabling at least 75% fresh food distribution each week. Last year GVFB distributed over 9.5 million pounds of food and served more than 800,000 client and agency visits across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, and the North Shore.

Consolidation streamlines operations for 160+ community agencies and 8 provincial agencies, reduces transport costs and emissions, and improves transit access for clients. The new facility also houses the FRESH Start program — connecting clients to employment, settlement, financial literacy, and health supports — and supports food‑rescue, preservation pilots, and expanded volunteer engagement.

GVFB is deeply grateful to The Rix Family Foundation for its visionary investment in the Capital Campaign that has provided a permanent home making a more resilient, sustainable food system possible.
